Kindergarten November Literacy Centers
I’m a little late in blogging about November centers for kinders. They’ve been on TPT and TN for over a month, but I haven’t gotten around to blogging about them. The kinder centers are especially fun for me because Shawn is at the age where he can do these. It’s been fun to see what he likes and what he thinks “isn’t as fun”. Ha! Next week I’ll be using these centers with my kinder groups at school too.
The set up for this month’s centers is similar to October and September. Enjoy my photo dump! 😉
Beginning Sound Match: Shawn loved this one because he liked coloring the little pictures on his worksheet.
Syllable Sort: This is the first month that Shawn is starting to get the syllable thing! I was so shocked at how difficult this was for him. It was eye opening, that’s for sure. He’d stretch one syllable words into two syllables like this: ow-el (for owl). We’re getting there now. 🙂 He likes the clapping part of this center.
Rhyming Match: There are two words that rhyme with each picture on the sorting mat.
Sound match: Matching the letter to the picture that starts with that sound. (There are options for color leaves and black and white leaves. I am trying to save my printer a little with the less inky option.)
Letter Match (lower case to upper case)
Letter Sort: Sorting letters with different fonts
Another option for Letter Sort that is more challenging: sorting based on the vowel sound
Going Nutty Making words (different vowel options)
Matching up pie parts to make words
Letter Race or Word Race: This was Shawn’s favorite!
You could laminate the student sheet so they could do it more than once, or you could make the student sheet two sided.
I also included some extras to get kinders ready for the reading section of the menu (coming up in January). Rebuild a poem (with sentence strips and student sheet), read, think, match, Read, Visualize, Draw, and Read, Think, Match. These are not included on the menu, but are included in the pack as extras. You could do these as whole class or small group activities.
Here is the menu:
